These page has links to pictures of the Assateague Island ponies in the southern herd. These are the ones you normally see around the island as you drive. They used to run free but now are fenced off from the people and their cars. Occasionally you see some loose but usually not for long. In the old days, they stood in the road and stopped traffic. Now you have to work to see them. The Northern Herd is easy to see if you're up for an 8 mile round-trip walk.
